Sunday morning’s tumble of matins
churning in a circular waterfall
of celebration, an invitation
to enter the day’s flow whispered
from passing cars to the muffled
bark, hushed tones of Sunday
a tentative kiss, an open welcome
to explore Florence in slow time
a gentle waltz of sound turning
‘round the town, the smooth
warmth of coffee urging us
toward sights, senses in tow
for the filling and tasting that awaits
our eagerness, anticipations
grateful and gratified
at every turn.

Very evocative. Takes me back to Firenze! How I wish I could go back, troop of kids in tow. Well done
Oh, thanks Phil – It was my first day there – evoking both a universal and very specific response, apparently. So glad it resonated with you, too!!!
Very evocative of a place I know well, and an atmosphere of ancient Sunday tradition… so nostalgic! beautifully conveyed.
Thanks for coming by, Philippa! Did you live in Florence at some point??? Or just a favorite holiday destination? Thanks for your kind words.
No, no residence, I wish! But many frequent visits over many years. Have you read ‘The Restorer’ by Daniela Murphy? You can find a review of a marvellous Tuscan/Florentine book by someone who does live there on my site under Reviews Here is a link
http://philipparees.wordpress.com/reviews/review-of-daniela-murphys-the-restorer/ I think you would like it and its now avalable on Kindle
Thanks for the reference, Philippa. I’ll definitely check out both the review and the book!!
Sarah..the way you weave your experiences into words is amazing….there is such depth of emotion…love it and thanks so much for sharing with us.
Thanks so much, Lois! It is how I experience things; wonderful to hear that it resonates beyond my own heart. Thanks for stopping by and sharing your thoughts.
